New Junior Ranger Programme!

Kids of all ages are welcome at Gondwana Game Reserve. On arrival families will be informed about the Junior Ranger program and their ranger will enquire about any special requests, dietary, babysitting or otherwise. Children will receive a fun Ranger’s backpack and cool safari booklet to fill in throughout their stay. During game drives and other activities with their ranger, kids will be taught how to identify mammals, birds, Fynbos species, and even stars. They will gain a greater understanding of conservation and our precious eco systems. They will be quizzed on what they’ve learned by their ranger and receive a level 1 Junior Ranger Patch and completion certificate, as well as a picture with their ranger for their safari book.

When Junior Rangers go to sleep, they’ll find a goodnight story and a yummy treat waiting for them. Baby sitting is available at a nominal cost. Due to our location, off-duty staffs are used to care for kids.

Booking Guidelines for Children:

• Children under twelve (12) pay 50% of normal rate, Children under four (4) are free
• A Junior ranger program is inclusive for all children between the ages of 4 and 12 to educate and delight them with the wonders of nature (this includes educational game drives, interactive activities, junior ranger backpacks and completion badges
• We recommend families book into the Fynbos Villa suites for more space and comfort including adjoined 2nd bedroom, kitchen, lounge, TV/DVD and large outdoor deck. Cots & rollaway beds are available if you would like your little ones to sleep with you. We require suites to be booked for families with children under twelve (12)
• Babysitting is available at a rate of R80.00 per hour per child
• Children from seven (7) years old may join the normal game drives with other guests
• Children under seven (7) years old may accompany their parents on game drive if exclusive use of a Land Rover has been reserved. Private Land Rovers are subject to availability and a surcharge
• Children under the age of 4 are not allowed in the dining room or deck for dinner. In suite or private boma dinners will be arranged for children under 4 with their parents or with a sitter
• A children’s menu is available at all times. Please speak to your ranger or lodge manager should your children have any specific dietary requests

Game Drives

Game Drives conducted in open Land Rovers.

Morning and evening safaris are included in your stay with gourmet breakfast treats or delicious hors d´oeuvres and sundowners in the evenings.

Day visitors can also book morning or evening drives with or without a bush meal (brunch or dinner), snacks and drinks included.

Horseback Safaris

Horse Back Safaris on Gondwana´s specially bred Shire cross trail horses – "gentle giants"

Overnight guests are welcome to alternate their game drive with a horse ride in the reserve´s 1000 hectare walking area.

Day visitors can also book morning or evening rides with or without a bush meal (brunch or dinner) in the reserve´s 1000 hectare walking area.

Bird Watching

Gondwana has over 300 species of birds in its general region, many of which are endemic and only found in this part of South Africa such as the Cape Sugarbird and Orange Breasted Sunbird.

Frequent sightings of endangered Black Harriers are a real treat!

Gondwana sports it´s own Bird Hide, perfect for bird watching in a relaxed environment.

Guided Nature Trails and Fynbos Walks

Walk with your game ranger into black rhino and elephant sightings unnoticed, to truly appreciate these spectacular animals.

Walk with our Fynbos experts to begin to get a glimpse of one of the world’s six Floral Kingdoms, this is the smallest and richest per area unit.
