Ornithogalum dubium

_DSC8126 Ornithogalum dubium also known as geel tjienkerintjee (yellow chincherinchee), it’s a lovely bulb. The flowers can be orange, yellow or white with a dark centre. It is found flowering now on the reserve. Ornithogalum dubium often flowers after good rains or fire. Flowers are about 3cm in diameter when open and the plant can grow up to 50 cm tall.

Moraea lewisiae ssp. lewisiae

_DSC7623 Moraea lewisiae ssp. Lewisiae is also known as the Volstruisuintjie or Ostrich bulb. It is endemic to South Africa. The bright yellow flowers are about 30mm in diameter and are usually open during late afternoon. Moraea lewisiae ssp. Lewisiae can bee seen flowering on Gondwana at the moment as it flowers between late spring and summer.
