Crossyne guttata also known as Sambreelblom or Parasol Flower. Plants can grow to be 45cm tall. Can be locally abundant in loamy soils in Renosterveld. They seem to flower best after fire but are not dependant on fire to flower. There can be up to 200 flowers on each flowerhead.
Crossyne guttata (above) has the most fascinating leaves (below). I photographed these on the 13 September 2017 and have been waiting to identify the flower. Ironically the leaves disappear completely when Crossyne guttata flowers so it has been an awesome challenge. These leaves are pressed against the ground usually in pairs or in fours. The narrow leaves feel leathery and have coarse bristly long hairs that are almost animal like!
