CONSERVATION LEVY

The conservation levy guests pay is vital in helping Gondwana protect its endangered flora and fauna through its anti-poaching unit and training facility as well as ongoing conservation programs to strengthen our biodiversity.

1) Conservation of Critically Endangered Fynbos
Our location in the Cape Floristic Kingdom with its critically endangered Fynbos plant species requires very specific land management with ongoing research and experimentation to determine optimal game densities and regenerative veld burning programs. All of which are critical in sustaining its biodiversity.

2) Conservation of Wetland Systems
Our primary program for water & flora conservation is our alien plant eradication program. Over 3000 hectares have already been cleared and ongoing maintenance is essential to secure our wins whilst teams of local sourced contractors grow our footprint of cleared land, providing employment and training for surrounding communities.

3) Conservation of Our Fauna
The animals who call Gondwana home include large, charismatic species such as Lions & Elephants but also tiny indigenous minnows (small freshwater fish) in our river system. All need conservation and monitoring to ensure they continue to benefit from our adaptive wildlife management program.

4) Anti-Poaching Unit
Our highly skilled Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) and field rangers are based in Gondwana Game Reserve at Camp Charleston. They are an essential component of our conservation philosophy. Without this specialist team we could not ensure the safety and protection of our animals which include our Rhino. The APU undergo constant training and their numbers increase as our Rhino conservation program progresses. Along with this their equipment requires constant review and upgrade as anti-poaching practices change.

5) Conservation Education
A vital part of our conservation efforts include the education of all our neighboring communities and regular hosting of community schools grade 6 & 7s contributes to awareness and understanding of the value conservation brings to all people everywhere.

Please note

  • These fees are subject to change with notification and billed in advance and non-commissionable.
  • The conservation levy is inclusive of VAT at 15%.
  • The conservation levy is charged per person per stay.
  • This levy will be included on the invoice that you receive from our Reservations Department and will need to be prepaid prior to the guest’s arrival at the Lodge.
